As more climbers attempt to summit this mountain, they witness the effects of its commercialization and face new challenges presented by climate change. During and after the film, we’ll share thoughts, comments, and enjoy group discussion.
Join Eliza, Brunswick’s Organics Recycling Intern, for a Zoom based information session on the Town of Brunswick’s food waste recycling initiative. This presentation will focus on highlighting the different approaches to food waste recycling in Brunswick. These three approaches include: Accessing food waste drop off sites; Participating in home composting; Subscribing to a food waste recycling service, Garbage to Garden.
Piano to Zanskar conveys a familiar message about the power of music through a powerful story. The film is about Desmond O’Keefe, a retired piano tuner from London, who decides to deliver a piano to a Himalayan school in an isolated settlement after finding inspiration from one of his customers. During and after the film, we’ll share thoughts, comments, and enjoy group discussion.

Invasive plant volunteer days are led by Pocono Heritage Land Trust's Stewardship Manager Matt, and are a great way to learn about the impacts of invasive plants, gain first-hand experience restoring our Pocono forest ecosystems, and discover cool plants, insects and other interesting finds along the way!

The annual DuPage County River Sweep is a county-wide self-coordinated stream cleanup held each spring. The purpose of the one-day River Sweep is to encourage volunteer groups to help “sweep our rivers clean” by picking up debris in and along the local waterways. Over the past 31 years that this event has taken place, more than 9,000 volunteers have removed nearly 300 tons of garbage from DuPage County streams.
It's easy to get started! Go ahead and pick a "problem spot"—a spot where the ground stays soggy, the sun burns hot or there is deep shade most of the day. You can dig out an invasive species, roots and all, and start over. After clearing your spot and planting some native plants, shrubs or trees, pretty soon, you'll find your yard boasts beautiful attributes while serving as important sources of food in local food chains. Join Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation and Polk County Conservation to celebrate National Trails Day! Volunteers will lend a hand maintaining the trails in Easter Lake Park before gathering for an afternoon of food, fun, and community.
Get outdoors and help restore some of Des Moines' most popular outdoor areas while also helping animals at Blank Park Zoo! Together, volunteers will help restore land for native plants by removing invasive species in the greater Des Moines area. After the event, organizers will take the plants to Blank Park Zoo where they will be "upcycled" into food for the zoo animals.
You're invited to Heritage Valley, a 1,200-acre nature area near Decorah, for a summer prairie seed harvest! Together, we'll hand-harvest native seed from Heritage Valley's hillside prairies. Seed collected will be used to diversify and expand the prairie. We'll kick the day off with conversation and a bit of background about Heritage Valley before heading out into the prairie.

Take a deep breath and enjoy the view, as the lands that are seen from this property are almost all preserved, either by the Sharon Land Trust or by other regional conservation organizations. Parts of this preserve are steep – Intermediate to advanced walkers.
In partnership with CT Trails Day, join Maria Grace for a lovely 2.5 mile hike at the Hamlin Preserve, one of SLT’s largest public preserves. A new loop trail has been blazed, winding its way through rock outcrops and ledges. This walk is moderate in ability with some uphills and downhills.

This 1.5-hr workshop will be a short informal walk at Genesee Land Trust's Brookdale Preserve, where you will learn how to recognize and assess deer impacts in the forest, led by Cornell University’s Kristi Sullivan. You will also get hands-on experience establishing AVID plots. The data we collect will help the land trust understand deer impacts at the Preserve, and you will leave feeling confident and ready to establish plots on your own land or land in your community. You can choose your own site, or we will help match you with a local forest landowner or land trust property.

Learn about the best practices for outdoor recreation and some of the history behind the Adirondacks. Three miles round-trip on the Pinnacle Trail at The Pinnacle Preserve.
The annual Rock and Snow Bridge 2 Bridge Five Mile Run is organized by Mohonk Preserve with support from the Shawangunk Runners. All proceeds benefit Mohonk Preserve and its mission to protecting the beautiful Shawangunk Mountains region and promoting a wider understanding of the environment and its role in our lives. The Rock and Snow Bridge 2 Bridge course offers a rare chance to race on some of the most extraordinary running trails in the U.S., with five miles of gently rolling carriage roads.
Since 2014, lawn and landscape professional Paul Wagner of Greener Pastures Organics has provided free lawn care advice weekly to homeowners and professional landscapers at Bridge Gardens. Following the event, the art will be auctioned and proceeds will benefit the participating artists, Roost Studios and Mohonk Preserve. The event is free to Mohonk Preserve members. Non-members will be charged a day-use fee of $15 per adult. Children 15 and under are always free.

Citizen Science is a great way to get involved with scientific research. Download and create accounts for the apps iNaturalist and Seek (iNaturalist’s app) before you arrive, and learn how to use them on the trail to learn about flora and fauna and contribute data to active research projects. 1.2 miles round-trip, Bradley’s Lookout trail at The Pinnacle Preserve.
John Rhodes, P.E. will lead you through the hydraulic cycle, following the journey of rain water as it finds its way to Lake George. He will focus on the impacts of erosion and sedimentation, and how different land use affects runoff, infiltration, and ultimately, the water quality of the Lake. John Rhodes, P.E. was trained at MIT and has more than 45 years of experience in environmental engineering and science related to soil, air, surface water and groundwater.
Come listen to Tim Watson, a wildlife biologist with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation talk about beavers in Lake George, the Adirondacks and New York State. Tim will give a brief overview of the history of beavers in New York State and the Americas, the biology and ecology of beavers, the positive role that beavers play in our environment, and the challenges that we face living with beavers.
Patrice will guide participants in a fun 2 hour painting session inspired by Georgia O’Keeffe’s famous Sunflower. Focusing on shapes and proportions, participants will use acrylic paints on an 8 x 10 inch stretched canvas to paint their version of this Sunflower, and take home a finished painting. Though geared for beginners, all ages and artistic abilities will enjoy this class. All supplies are included; wine provided by Adirondack Winery.

Take a hike up to the Godwin Preserve Overlook and check out some Adirondack birds close up. This overlook provides great views of soaring raptors and nearby songbirds. Binoculars and the smartphone app Merlin Bird ID recommended. 1.6 miles round-trip.
Join Naturalist Karin Badey for a battle of the pond creatures – frogs vs. turtles! Frogs are really amazing creatures. Not only are they fun to watch and listen to, but they also serve as indicators of environmental health in wetland ecosystems. Turtles are also important, and are featured players in Adirondack folklore and ecosystem. Meet some of the common frogs and turtles of the area, learn how to identify them and talk about why they are each important and how we can help them. Then take a vote on who is the coolest creature on the block!
Naturalists are masters of observation. Sharpen your skills by creating a Nature Journal to record some of the things we’ll see on a visit to Edgecomb Pond. This presentation will focus on early mapping and surveying in the Lake George area and include the history of some of the place names that are connected to that mapping and exploration; examine how all-but-forgotten Adirondack history pre-1850 had a profound effect upon the shaping of America.

As one of the last undeveloped shoreline pieces in the northern basin, this acquisition will close the gap in shore protection for this critical region. Run through the National Historic Landmark District of Geneseo and head into the Genesee Valley past 300 year old oak savannahs, sheep pastures, and horse farms. Join us to help save land in the Genesee Valley by running this scenic small-town half marathon that includes the amenities you would expect at a big city race. With live music on the course, historic aircraft flyovers, and hand-made finisher medals, the Oak Tree is a unique half marathon that showcases the beauty of the Genesee Valley.
The Pfalz Point Trail Challenge is a 10-mile benefit run to support Mohonk Preserve. The course offers a rare chance to race on some of the most extraordinary running trails in the U.S., with ten miles of broad open meadows with spectacular views, steep and rocky footpaths, and gently rolling carriage roads.
The Wallkill Valley Land Trust joined an international movement of pollinator pathways in 2020 by forming the Wallkill Valley Pollinator Pathway to raise awareness of the severe threats facing native pollinators. Nearly 50 individuals have taken the pledge to use native pollinator-friendly plants; identify and remove invasive plants and to avoid using pesticides/insecticides on their land. The WVPP now covers over 485 acres and is continuing to grow.
Land trusts have already conserved 61 million acres of private land across the nation — more than all of the national parks combined. Help us conserve another 60 million acres by the end of the decade.

Baby Salmon Live Here brings awareness to where baby salmon live and encourages the conservation of land essential to both salmon and people. Our main initiative of the program is to install educational signs where baby salmon live—along tiny inland streams throughout the Kenai Peninsula

Help us preserve our conservation lands! Volunteers are needed to help clean up the Vanderbilt Creek conservation property. This property is located across the street from the city landfill. Strong winds and birds constantly carry trash onto the property. Many hands are needed to help remove the trash before it enters Vanderbilt Creek - an important stream for salmon rearing.

Get the Rush is a series of fun, free activities for the whole family, offered on the third Saturday of every month at Rush Ranch. Guests can visit the blacksmith shop, Solano Land Trust Pop-Up Shop, exhibit tables, and meet the horses of Access Adventure. Visitors can join guided Marsh Walk or use Explorer Quest, a self-guided Geocache scavenger hunt, presented in partnership with Solano County Office of Education.
This hike will take visitors westward along Middle Valley Trail leading to Prairie Ridge. Expect about a five-mile hike at a moderate, but even pace over uneven ground. Muddy spots will have cattle prints. There are steep climbs over several hills with the longest at Prairie Ridge. It’s worth it to see the view of the northern San Francisco Bay.
Come explore the sweeping hills near Cordelia on one of the land trust’s vastest and most rugged properties. Solano Land Trust docents will guide you through this area, known as the King-Swett Ranches. Docents will share insights about the birds, plants, butterflies, and other wildlife that call this area home, and give you a great workout!
Please join us for an approximately 5 to 7-mile mountain bike ride with nearly 1,500 feet of climbing. This ride covers the trails at the property and includes scenic views and several interpretive stops.
Explore the hills between Suisun Valley and Green Valley and see sweeping views of Solano County and beyond. Scenic stands of blue and live oaks and the fascinating geology of the park make this a truly unique hike. Moderately strenuous, 4-6 miles.
Sonoma Land Trust's On the Land program connects people with nature through a variety of outdoor activities on protected lands. We offer bilingual (Spanish/English) family outings, adventure outings for college students, community group outings, and general public outings, both in-person and online.
We now offer opportunities to get out on the land with monthly workdays and/or hikes on one of our properties. We meet in San Juan Bautista, then caravan to the project site. We finish around noon and participants are welcome to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy before leaving.
Join us in our habitat restoration project in the San Elijo Lagoon Ecological Reserve. Your help is needed as we restore 38 acres of coastal sage scrub habitat, home to a federally endangered bird, the California Gnatcatcher. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes, a hat, and get ready for hands-on fun in the soil! You can help restoration team members remove invasive species. That will help the newly planted seedlings local to the area, including California buckwheat, spiny redberry, bush monkeyflower, and indigenous grasses that provide nectar, pollen, and seeds for hungry butterflies, insects, birds, and other animals.

Cynthia Rohrbach, biologist with Swan Trust, and Andrea Bishop, retired botanist with TN Natural Areas Program, will lead us on the two-mile Cheeks Bend Trail, which includes high-quality representative limestone cedar glades with several rare plants, cedar and hardwood forests, and scenic bluffs overlooking the Duck River.
